These past three months have been a tremendous adjustment period. I have felt myself growing as a person more and more each day. This semester has been challenging yet manageable. I have been busy so I have learned how and where to dedicate my time. Time management was probably my biggest disadvantage. Between working at a daycare, joining a sorority, and mastering my classes; downtime became a rarity. In middle and high school, it was a lot easier to stay on track because I had the same schedule and was constantly reminded when assignments were due. However, college does not work that way. Students are given a syllabus and it was up to us to keep track of upcoming due dates.

Although, I think that Evernote is a great resource, it does not coordinate with my style of learning. I liked that Evernote allowed me to take screenshots and tag my notes in order to make organization easier. However, I absorb more information by handwriting my notes. When I type it is hard for me to grasp the information I am writing. I also tend to type slowly therefore taking notes on my laptop is difficult because the teacher usually moves too fast for me to get everything down. Additionally, I have learned that the most important thing to do regarding studying is to pay close attention in class and ask questions if needed.

My most challenging class happens to be my favorite course. English 201 has greatly helped me understand the concepts of literature. Professor Evelyn was a wonderful influence and helped me become extremely confident in the career path I have taken. The course material was definitely the hardest aspect. The readings focused on principals foreign to me and the wording was also at a very high level. At first, I was intimidated and felt that I was not capable of understanding the information. A strategy I developed was taking notes while reading. This helped me remember and retain the reading, as well as review points before class. After trying my very hardest I saw vast improvements. Not only was I mastering the quizzes but my writing improved. I gave myself long lengths of time to dissect my assignments and to write my essays.

Procrastination was something I struggled with in the beginning of the semester. This is an example of me being a surface learner at times. However, I yearn to be a deep learner which is something I usually am. I know that if I want to be successful it is up to me to do so. I have endured some trials and errors regarding my techniques of learning and studying. I have learned that it is important for me to write things down myself. This way I am able to understand the teachings better. I also learned the significance taking notes has on my ability to retain information. In my future, I will continue to work hard in order for my dream of becoming a professor to be a reality.
